Our Good Deeds

A new addition to the Christmas festivities sponsored by the Town of Boykins in 2020. Understanding how important it is to support events developed by the town to bring the community together for friendship and fellowship, The Coard Foundation sponsored one of the 10 trees that encircled the large tree in front of the town flag in the Buck Lassiter Mini Park.

The entire community was anxious to get out of their homes to view the lighting of the trees, sing Christmas carols and to visit with family, friends and neighbors. It was a beautiful evening and we were so glad we participated.

Boykins Volunteer Fire and Rescue hosted a free photos with Santa Claus event at the firehouse. The Coard Foundation donated goodie bags full of candy to be distributed to all of the boys and girls upon exit.

From early December through Christmas Day, one building on Main Street has been magically transformed into Santa’s Post Office where children can visit the post office, deposit their letters to Santa in his magic mailbox where the letter is transported to the North Pole for a actual reply from Santa himself.

This project was brought together through The Coard Foundation, the Tarrara Women’s Club, Santa Claus and participating elves.

George Brozzo is the Police Chief for the Town of Boykins and has been serving the town and it’s residents for over a decade. Each year, he participates in the Law Enforcement United Police Unity Tour. It’s a 250 mile bike ride to Washington D.C. to support fallen officers. All riders and support staff are volunteers and nearly all of the money goes directly toward the charities they ride for.

The Coard Foundation voted to make a donation to this worthwhile cause to support George as he is always there for the town and everyone in our community. Thank you, George!

Pat Draper was the Town Clerk for the Town of Boykins for 15 years. Known for her friendly and talkative disposition, she was often considered the face of Boykins. If you needed to apply for a business license, pay your taxes or had any questions or concerns to raise about anything Boykins related, you knew Pat.

Early on during the Covid-19 pandemic and eventual lockdowns, Pat passed unexpectedly. Sandy Coard, friend and admirer of Pat, suggested that friends and family build a memorial garden in front of the town office where she worked and volunteered tirelessly for over 15 years.

Pat always wanted to landscape around the town office. But, it had always seemed there just wasn’t enough money in the town budget. The Coard Foundation voted to contribute financially to the project and also helped coordinate the construction of The Pat Draper Memorial Garden through the help of Justin Overby of Justin’s Landscaping, John Cann of Cann Farms, and participation from the Town of Boykins, Wright Funeral Home, and many of Pat’s friends and family.

Sonny Draper has been a member of Boykins United Methodist Church since childhood. It was brought to our attention that Sonny was having difficulty hearing the weekly music and message.

The Coard Foundation acted swiftly by voting to purchase and install an In-Ear Monitoring System for Boykins United Methodist Church. Now, Sonny has complete control over the volume of the music and spoken word and he can once again enjoy this time of fellowship.
